Server Administration Utilities

You can use these utilities to administer the MySQL server and data. Some interact with the server and others manipulate directly the data files for MySQL. Some of these utilities are provided with MySQL and are typically installed in a standard directory for executables so that they are automatically on the user's command path. Other utilities have to be downloaded and installed from MySQL AB's site or from a third-party site.

comp_err

This utility may be used to compile text files that contain mappings of error codes into a format necessary for MySQL.

make_binary_distribution Tool

This tool is used to make a binary distribution of MySQL from the source code.

myisamlog

This utility may be used to scan and extract information from the myisam.log file, which logs debugging messages for the MyISAM table handler.

mysqlaccess

This utility is used to check privileges of a user for a specific host and database.

mysqladmin Utility

This popular utility may be used to perform MySQL server administration tasks from the command line.

mysqlbinlog

This utility is used to format the display of the binary log for a MySQL server.

mysql_find_rows Tool

This utility may be used to search text files containing SQL statements (e.g., a dump file generatd by mysqldump).

mysql_fix_privilege_tables

You can use this utility to implement the changes to the user privileges or grants tables between versions of MySQL.

mysql_setpermission Tool

This tool is an interactive Perl program that allows an administrator to set user privileges.

mysql_upgrade Tool

You may want to use this tool after upgrading to a new version of MySQL.

mysql_waitpid

This utility uses the Unix system command, kill to terminate a process on the server.

mysql_zap

Use this to utility to kill processes based on a given pattern.

my_print_defaults Utility

Use this to parse a configuration file so as to convert key/value pairs into command-line equivalent options.

perror

Use this to obtain descriptions of system error codes that MySQL received.

resolveip

This is a simple network program which simply translates a host name to it's related IP address.

resolve_stack_dump

Use this to resolve a numeric stack.
